PRESS RELEASE: Frontiers of Globalization: Kinship and Family Structures in Africa

FHISER Director Leslie Bank has contributed a chapter to the book Frontiers of Globalization: Kinship and Family Structures in Africa, published this month by Africa World Press.

The book is a collection of papers presented to a 2008 experts meeting on Family Structures and Globalization in Africa, sponsored by the Social Trends Institute in Barcelona.

In addition to Dr. Bank’s contribution (“Matrifocality, Patriarchy and Globalization: Changing Family Forms in a South African City”), the collection includes 7 more chapters by leading academics in fields including sociology, law, political science and literary theory.  Including Professor Bank’s view from social anthropology, the book is a multi-disciplinary focus on the effects of globalization on African familial structures.
